Not a gift

Very often I hear people complaining that they have no natural talent for this or that, and that seems to fully explains their failure to achieve something. Well, while not everyone can be a number one at everything, dedication and a big heart (otherwise known as passion) can go a long way!

“We do not receive wisdom,
we must discover it for ourselves,
after a journey through the wilderness
which no one else can make for us,
which no one can spare us,
for our wisdom is the point of view
from which we come at last to regard the world.”

Marcel Proust

Story of perspectives

Heard this story on the radio the other night.

A bus full of passengers was travelling along the mountainside. It stopped, and a couple were the only people who alighted. Minutes later, as the bus continued on with its journey, an avalanche occurred and the bus was buried under the rubble. There were no survivors. All this happened in full view of the couple. At this point, the couple said to each other, “I wish we were still on the bus”.

Intrigued? At this point, the radio DJ challenged her listeners to guess the reason for the seemingly bizarre reaction.

April Fool's Day

Another April Fool’s Day.

Today also happens to be the first anniversary of the death of the Hong Kong superstar Leslie Cheung. So, a mischievous day for many around the world, but a day of remembrance for all his fans.

I wonder if just before he jumped to his death from his hotel room, whether he was the type who felt that no one would cry for him after he was gone!? I suppose in many cases, one’s perception when in depths of depression is usually far from the reality…

Other side of the fence

Read a story about a little girl who, due to an accident, lost sight in one eye. Furthermore, in order to save the eyeball, a big scar was left behind in the eyeball. This physical deformity has left her feeling self-conscious while growing up and if not for her mother’s constant encouragement, she would probably never be able to walk with her head held high.

Well, yesterday I met with a minor accident of my own when my spectacles were knocked from my face. As a result, there are some scratches along both sides of the bridge of my nose. Not too serious, but I am sure the internal bruising and the cuts (very noticeable) will remain for at least the next week or so.

Soar like a bird

Spent a couple of days on Genting Highlands (in Malaysia) over the weekend, and had a chance to “learn to fly” at one of the attractions called Sky Adventure – apparently the only such facility in the whole South East Asia. Essentially, it’s like being inside a gigantic vacuum cleaner. Yep, that’s me (in blue) in the photos! The photos were frame captures from a video tape, hence the poor quality.
