Movie marathon: post-mortem

Happy to say that I survived the marathon! Although I did not win any prizes at the end of the contest, it was quite enjoyable and challenging. 🙂

Slightly to my surprise, I managed to stay awake for all 8 movies without needing to heavily dose up on coffee. For me, the toughest period was from 5 – 9am (just after the 5th movie). Actually, had a Red Bull on Saturday afternoon, and the organisers did give out a canned coffee on the bus, but, honestly, it was nothing more than coffee-flavoured water.

Movie marathon

Was informed yesterday that I won a company lucky draw (actually you needed to answer some questions to be qualified for the draw) to attend a movie marathon this coming weekend: 3pm Saturday to 3pm Sunday!

Memorable: Ender's Game

To continue the <a href="”>previous post on novel series which I really enjoyed, another one which deserves mention is Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card.

While I don’t quite remember when I first picked up the this book – probably the second or third year during my undergraduate studies – I can recall vividly how emotionally I got involved while reading this book at the time. The action, the pace, the pain and toll of intensive training on a child, the loneliness of having no equals among your peers, and the realisation of having single-handedly annihilated an entire alien race, the list goes on.

Collective mind

Was in the middle of a searching online when I stumbled on to Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia. The significance and the magnitude of this project can only be grasped once you realise that the contributions to this great body of knowledge all come from ordinary people who venture on to the electronic realm – in short, people like you and me.

Never ending…

“Think not to settle down forever in any truth. Make use of it as a tent in which to pass a summer’s night but build no house of it, or it will be your tomb. When you first have an inkling of its insufficiency and begin to see a dim counter-truth looming up beyond, then weep not, but give thanks. It is time to ‘take up your bed and walk.'”
