Recently, two new digital SLRs were let loose on the market. Both kits (body + 1 zoom lens) will be sold for less than SG$1800 (or about US$1200). Both sport very similar 10.2 Megapixel sensors.

Since my previous overseas trip to Japan, I had wanted to get a “decent” digital SLR. For its convenience and of course quality. Despite the bulkiness – to be pragmatic, I will not be lugging with me on every single trip – I feel this is the right thing for me.

I was initially quite tempted by the Sony model, with new features (on-camera image stabilization for increasing sharpness in low light conditions as in the past I liked taking photos in churches or other historical buildings). But after talking to the folks at John 3:16, I am having second thoughts. In any case, it’s best – unless there is an urgent need – not to get the camera upon release. There is likely to be technical issues which need time to resolve.

So, all I can do is wait for now…

Perhaps something from this list of Nikon DSLRs?
