Laws of physics

Happened to see this bit of info on the Discovery Channel on Sunday which kind of got stuck in my head. The show was called “Time Warped” which consists of a crew going around different places to camera high-speed action using equally high-speed video cameras.

The last segment had a brief physics simulation of the male urination process, or simul-pee if you like…

The set-up consists of a filled water tank and a thin rubber tube which acts as the urinary tract. Now if the urinary tract is suspended in free space, once the, uhh, “tap” is opened, the flow as expected is consistent and on-target. Basically “the spot marked X” has a direct hit every time.

Don't miss your flight

Having been in this situation once, I can certainly sympathise with this lady who apparently went off the boil when she missed her flight to San Francisco at the Hong Kong International Airport.

Edible love letters?

Learned something new today.

Kueh kapit (also spelled kuih kapek) is a thin, crisp cookie emblazoned with auspicious words and symbols. Also known as love letters, kueh kapit takes an inordinate amount of effort to make, and is thus only prepared during Chinese New Year. For many people, though, the wait is worth it.

Actually, from what I can see, it is available more or less all year round these days. read more

Routine goodness

I guess it pays – literally – to be a regular customer, because for the first time, I got a latte on the house today!

Happy Chinese new year!
