Couchsurfing

In this day and age where human deception and cruelty are not uncommon both on- and off-line, it is amazing and perhaps testament of human nature (our need to reach out to another human being, perhaps?) that trusting another person can lead to positive outcomes?

The case for sofa diplomacy – the story of hospitality networks.

Making choices

The freedom to make choices comes also with responsibility and burden to face the consequences. Perhaps it is because of our unwillingness to face the harsh outcomes that we often choose the course of least resistance?

Generational memories

This came to me as I sat in the coffee shop waiting for lunch today.

The human life span is alarmingly short in the grand scheme of things. Conventional wisdom would have it that since the age of about 20-30 most people are preparing for life of the next generation. But how are my memories going to be preserved? In fact how are the memories of this generation going to propagate? Will it be encoded in the genes as some have speculated in the past in the form of racial memories? Customs? Rituals…

On a personal level are my lessons learnt going to be passed down? Verbal means already being an inefficient means of communication, can we better ensure that the next and future generations can learn from our mistakes? Maybe this is god’s way of playing a joke on us – imperfet and keep on making the same mistakes?

Healthy dose of creativity

Just saw a mention of this website on a gadgets blog: Running from camera.

As mentioned on the site, the idea is very simple:

Put the self-timer on 2 seconds, push the button and try to get as far from the camera as possible. read more

Another paradox

In every walks of life, from time to time, we’d come across those people who are all too eager to criticise at the first opportunity. Unfortunately, it is often the case that the very people who are prone to criticising others are also clueless about how to improve whatever they are trashing… After all, if there is anything constructive to say, these people would be kept busy doing things instead of shooting off their mouths!? Why criticise then, you may ask? Well, this is probably just an indication of some deep-lying insecurities in the first place!?
