Lord of the Rings

The final episode of the Lord of the Rings trilogy will open in cinemas across Singapore tomorrow. Also, I heard that there is supposed to be a movie marathon today, running from 9am to 9pm, where some cinemas will show all three of the Lord of the Rings movies in one go! Quite tempting… 🙂

Anyway, did not manage to finish the second episode over the weekend, but looking forward to episode 3 tomorrow night nevertheless.

Rainy Sunday

November and December have been traditionally the wetter months in Singapore. Today has been one of those typical days, a persistent drizzle throughout the day. Slightly annoying if you were planning to be outside or doing your laundry, but otherwise pleasant because of the cool breeze and lower humidity.

Guess people have many different ways of passing the time on such rainy Sunday days? Well, I took the opportunity to enjoy Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Ring on DVD this afternoon, while sipping on a nice cup of coffee… Also, this was in preparation for the premiere of the final episode pf this epic trilogy in Singapore this coming Thursday. There is just the second DVD, The Two Towers, to go!

2-way learning

Just had this thought about teaching/learning.

As long as someone is open-minded, there should always be a way of explain a concept, however complicated it is, in a form that is easily digestible. So, what are the implications? A “teacher” willing to vary his approach and ways of repackaging his thoughts and a willing “pupil” who yearns for the knowledge and trying hard to comprehend what is at hand.

Mindless surfing

Taking some time out from my cramming (yes, cramming is the right word here, a really rare thing for me, I must admit…) for tomorrow’s exam. Happened to read this amusing account of the vagaries and potential ups and downs of online dating agencies! Somehow it seems comforting that conventional values still hold true in real life, even if the internet does provide a new avenue for meeting people.

Amazing finish!

The Rugby World Cup final just finished a few minutes ago, and Australia narrowly lost it… 😥

The Australian team did themselves proud tonight, twice coming back from behind and eventually forcing play into extra time. Every time England nudged ahead, Australia managed to pull back the difference. In the end, it was the halfback Jonny Wilkinson’s kicking that made all the difference, kicking a final drop goal seconds from the end of extra time. It was certainly a nerve-racking game right through!! Final score: Australia 17, England 20.

England has made history tonight, being the first northern-hemisphere to hold aloft the Rugby World Cup.
