Eternal bliss

A series of posts on a friend’s blog about depression prompted the following thoughts.

It’s actually not that far-fetched that your diet – or more correctly chemicals in the foods – can have an effect on your state of mind, and hence your mood. After all, the things we eat are already influencing our hormonal balance, no? This in turn can lead to pimples (something external), increased agitation (psychological), etc. “Heatedness”, the commonly used term in the Chinese community, is not just referring to the physical condition but also the emotional health.

No bags

On the trip back from Australia, the unthinkable happened.

My bag was lost in transit! As it turned out, it seems that my bag was not even loaded onto the flight from Sydney to Singapore! While I am sure this is not an unusual incident as far as international travelling is concerned, this is definitely a first for me. Oh well, at least I still had my house keys in the carry-on luggage… 🙁

Holy Grail(s)

Despite the obvious religious connotations in the title, it seems the term ‘Holy Grail‘ has taken on slightly different meanings over the years, as seen from this list: List of Holy Grails. Accidentally stumbled across this list while reading about a new attempt at the Holy Grail of CSS formatting: (Geek-speak) a three-column layout with fluid centre and two fixed-width columns.

Can't wait?

Last night, on my way home, what I observed as I was getting off the MRT (aka metro is other places) finally made me realize why many people like to say that life is tough in Singapore.

To try

Some people say I cannot sing,
but no one can say I didn’t sing.

Florence Foster Jenkins, American Soprano

It is better to have tried and failed than not to have attempted at all, no? It is indeed quite frightening to take risks and try new things. We think, “What if I fail?” What if you do? It won’t be your first mistake. And no matter how bad it is, it probably won’t be your worst mistake. Life’s saddest words are found on a tombstone that reads: “When it came time to die, I had not lived.”
