Web design patterns

Looking for some inspirations to build that new website of yours? Well, here are some excellent ideas and examples which I am sure to study very carefully.

  • welie.com, with lots of samples.
  • Designing Interfaces, the companion website to Designing Interfaces: Patterns for Effective Interaction Design – an intermediate-level book about interface and interaction design, structured as a pattern language from O’Reilly.
  • WebPatterns

Holy Grail(s)

Despite the obvious religious connotations in the title, it seems the term ‘Holy Grail‘ has taken on slightly different meanings over the years, as seen from this list: List of Holy Grails. Accidentally stumbled across this list while reading about a new attempt at the Holy Grail of CSS formatting: (Geek-speak) a three-column layout with fluid centre and two fixed-width columns.

Online calendars

Currently looking for a good online and PHP-based event calendars to use for a site I am planning. Here are some that I will keep in consideration:

Eric Meyer on CSS

Bought these two books recently. Initially bought one but because currently running into some issues on CSS dropdown menus and happened to see that the second book covers this. Very good source of reference. Clear and hands-on approach. However, only gripes is that no detailed discussion on font-size selection, in particular advice on choices for resolution-independent fonts.

Technorati

Just created a Technorati profile on the Technorati website. In case you did not know this, Technorati is probably one of the largest – if not THE single largest – resource about weblogs in existence.

I wonder if this can have any impact on the amount of traffic to my site??
