Enthusiasm

A short and simple one today.

“No one keeps up his enthusiasm automatically. Enthusiasm must be nourished with new actions, new aspirations, new efforts, new vision. Compete with yourself; set your teeth and dive into the job of breaking your own record. It is one’s own fault if his enthusiasm is gone; he has failed to feed it.”

The path

Recently there has been a number of changes in the lives of people around me, so this short quote seems rather timely.

“A warrior must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if he feels that he should not follow it, he must not stay with it under any conditions. His decision to keep on that path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. He must look at every path closely and deliberately. There is a question that a warrior has to ask, mandatorily: ‘Does this path have a heart?'”

Carlos Castaneda

Seeing is believing

Here’s a nice twist on the “Doubting Thomas” theme:

“Some things have got to be believed to be seen.”

Ralph Hodgson

Seize the day

Remember the movie The Dead Poets’ Society? I certainly do, because I saw the movie in the middle of my High School final-year exams, and the story certainly struck a chord with us 18-19 year olds. Well, something along similar lines today. Don’t let your song remain unsung.

“I have spent my days stringing and unstringing my instrument, while the song I came to sing remains unsung to this day.”

Rabindranath Tagore

How do we know?

When decisions need to be made, but doubts and uncertainties are creeping up again, perhaps you can try to recall the following:

“How will you ever know if you can paint that picture, run that business, sell that vacuum cleaner, earn that degree, hold that office, make that speech, win that game, marry that girl, write that book, bake that souffle, build that house – unless you try it!”
