The Final of the Cricket World Cup 2003 took place last night (local time anyway). Australia, after a magnificent batting display during their inning, reaching 359/2, came home with a well-deserved win, after they have gone through the tournament undefeated!
It was quite a thrill to be able to see it live – on pay-per-view TV, which was not that cheap by the way… Although not as tense as the semi-final match of the previous World Cup (the famous drawn Australia-South Africa game in 1999), there were some anxious moments mid-way through the Indian chase for Australia’s massive total. Rain could have become a critical factor and may thereby mar an otherwise wonderful game between the best two sides in this tournament. In the end, even the Gods must have deserted the Indian side, as the better and arguably the most dominant team in the One-Day game achieved victory.
