War & media

The war in Iraq is on the lips of everyone. So far, despite the initial optimism – through the media’s fondness for showing missiles hitting targets and brandishing the fire power in the coalition forces – and unreasonably high expectations, it is perhaps not surprising that it’s Iraq having the upper hand after about 10 or so days. After all, to win this war, US needs to depose Saddam Hussein, whereas all Saddam needs to do to win is to remain standing at the end of all the commotion!

Rules

I have always believed in the maxim: Rules are made to be broken. To some, this may be a bit of a cliche�!? However, this should not be viewed in a negative fashion. I am not suggesting, for example, either a total disregard for rules, or that there are always loopholes so we just have to accept and live with that. Instead, I think we can regard the situation more positively, i.e. as an incentive for all of us to try understand the same thing in more meaningful ways. Or, in the words of one of my lecturers, “To see new things with an pair of old glasses and see old things with a pair of new glasses”. After all, it is through understanding that we can effectively ‘break’ the rules, and yet be ‘correct’ at the same time, no?

Search broken

Just realised (as of last night) that the search form is actually broken. Who knows, maybe has not been working since I upgraded to v2.63? Will try to resolve it during this weekend. There should not be any problem with the underlying MySQL database, since in editing mode, search is possible.
